Covid-19 Executive Order

COVID-19 public health concerns are now impacting North Dakota. The North Dakota Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Board (NDMIRTB) Office is closely monitoring federal and state recommendations.
The North Dakota Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Board (NDMIRTB) recognizes the unprecedented circumstances medical imaging professionals face due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Board will continue its public safety mission while adapting to the daily changes occurring from this pandemic.
The NDMIRTB physical office is currently closed to the public due to the ND State of Emergency declaration issued by Governor Burgum on March 20, related to the COVID-19 coronavirus, however all core functions of the office will be maintained. The NDMIRTB will continue to process applications for licensure and registry, and accept online submissions of potential violations. Board staff will be checking email and voice messages regularly.
Gov. Doug Burgum has signed executive orders to assist in a reduction of regulatory requirements during the crisis. The initial executive order (Executive Order 2020-05) issued on Thursday, March 19, 2020 did not include the medical imaging professionals. The Board immediately made a request to the Governor to be included by an amendment and on Friday, March 20, 2020, the Governor did amend his Executive Order (Executive Order 2020-05.1) to include medical imaging professionals (NDCC Chap. 43-62).
During the temporary executive order, licensure requirements have been suspended for out of state imaging professionals who are licensed and in good standing in another state and interested in assisting ND employers. Individuals may practice across modalities and should contact the ND Department of Health to apply for temporary emergency licensure. There is NO cost to obtain a temporary emergency license and is valid only for the duration of the declared state of emergency for ND. All out of state applicants must follow our state practice’s statutes.

Temporary licensure process while under Executive Order:
Emergency Licensure for Medical Imaging Professionals from Out-of-State:
As directed by Executive Order 2020-05.1 and as part of North Dakota’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic, licensing requirements have been suspended for Medical Imaging Professionals currently licensed and in good standing in other states.
Interested out of state licensed individuals,
- must first apply for Emergency Licensure Application through the North Dakota Department of Health (DOH).
- must submit all required documents showing proof of licensure and in good standing.
- Once submitted, the application will be reviewed by DOH for temporary emergency licensure.
- Please be prepared to answer all travel-related screening questions by either DOH or employers. If needed a self-quarantine period would be mandatory for safety precautions.

In order to maintain licensure beyond the declared state of emergency, medical imaging professionals must follow the statutory requirements as set by statute, NDCC 43-62.
The NDMIRTB strongly encourages those interested in regular ND licensure to apply online at the board’s website to expedite the licensure process. Please try to refrain from paper applications during this process as the United States Postal Service (USPS) is also overwhelmed, the Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Board offers online applications with the exception of the fingerprinting process by the FBI, this still remains the same, at this time.
